Mr. Steve’s Garden http://buckhorncreekranch.net/news/mr-steves-garden-2 http://buckhorncreekranch.net/news/mr-steves-garden-2#comments Thu, 10 Nov 2011 23:39:42 +0000 buckhorncreek http://buckhorncreekranch.net/?p=212 Mr. Steve’s garden is a year round project. There is always something growing here on the ranch. Heirloom tomatoes are a specialty along with the tried and true Rutgers variety. Honeydews and watermelons will be ready in the next few weeks. Squash and cucumber bushes are producing lots of tasty veggies. Serrano peppers will put a “kick” in your salsa! Buckhorn Creek Ranch sells produce to the public – call for availablity.

Antler Hunting http://buckhorncreekranch.net/life-on-the-ranch/antler-hunting http://buckhorncreekranch.net/life-on-the-ranch/antler-hunting#comments Fri, 15 Apr 2011 23:53:24 +0000 buckhorncreek http://buckhorncreekranch.net/?p=164 We had a group visit from Kite today. They were met by our three tom turkeys looking for corn. The ducks waddled up to see that we had to offer. Before we boarded the wagon, the peacocks had to have some of that corn, too. The wagon ride down through the woods was punctuated by stops to feed the various animals that follow the wagon. We decided to go for a walk down to the woods pond and have an antler hunt. A Fallow deer antler was spotted laying on the edge of the pond. We had two brave young girls volunteer to inch down and get it. Then back on the wagon to see the Watusi cows, the camel and onto the Axis deer. Before we had lunch, a trip down to the horses was called for. Miss Crystal, Ginger, Mazie, Dolly and June Bug met us at the gate and gladly relieved the kids of the carrot tops that they had just pulled out of the garden. YUM!
